Lights!

I put Christmas lights up around the window in your room, and they dangle by your change table.

Lights have always caught your attention, but these are bright and colourful--guaranteed to distract you from any bad mood!

perfection

Tonight you sat in my lap for over a quarter of an hour, leaning back against my chest as you talked to the light. I played with your toes and noticed how your eyes have changed to a gray-blue ringed with dark blue. Beautiful. All of it.

Curiouser and curiouser

Dear Lily,

I cannot believe how much you seem to have grown up in this past week. You have mastered the art of grabbing and holding onto anything that is within your grasp, especially when it comes to hair! I see you getting curiouser and curiouser everyday and it's so great to watch you discovering your world on your own.

I gave you a stuffed snake to play with yesterday, and you demonstrated your ability to hold on (and chew) perfectly:
Mmm, snake
Daddy, you aren't thinking of taking this away.. are you? After a while, we did take it away, realizing that it probably wasn't very clean. Your tatus took a tentative suck on it where you had been chewing and... bleck! Gross. But you didn't seem to mind the taste at all.

Playing games

It's been over a week since we've taken pictures of you, and you've grown so much. Every day it seems you learn something new, you get more adept with your hands, laugh more, smile more, enjoy standing and sitting (with help)... I'm just always so impressed with you. I could do without the 2 a.m. bedtime, but if that's all I have to complain about, it's really nothing at all. :)

Your tatus and I were playing a board game tonight, and you joined in, helping him read questions to me:
And helping me answer the questions...
And then you rested in your chair and smiled for us...
Life can't get much better than this.

Watching traffic

Over the past couple of days, when we are changing your diaper in the evening, you twist around and seem to be looking at something over your head. This evening I realized you were looking out the window. So I flipped you over onto your stomach, a position you normally have very little tolerance for, and this time, you were quite content. AND, you held your head up for well over 5 minutes straight!

We should have figured it out earlier. You have always loved watching and talking to lights. And from your window, you have a great view of some streetlamps and cars driving by:
