Your first birthday party!: at the park

I'd planned a big birthday party for you, but it didn't quite work out as I planned, so we just had a smaller-scale party with Gran, Uncle Derek and Uncle Shane. The weather was cool for this time of year, so you didn't get to go swimming like I'd planned, but we did spend a lot of time at the park, working up an appetite.

You went down the slide (you figured out months ago how to stay sitting up on your own as you slide):again,
and again,
and again,
and then Gran joined in on the fun!
You showed Uncle Shane how to ride the tractor,
and he gave it a try, too!
You found a special seat where only you can fit:
And told everyone how it is from your perch:
Then it was time to go home for dinner, cake and presents!!

Your first birthday party!: dinner and presents

We had a big dinner of salad, wraps, spring rolls and watermelon after all the running around in the park we did.

Gran fed you lots and lots of watermelon--it's one of your favourite foods.
Maybe even your absolute favourite: Uncle Shane got goofy for the camera:

Present time!

Wrestling with the tape:
It's a....
dump truck! Cool!

And a...
book about Spot the dog!
Lift the flap books are the best. :)

Walking off all that food

After Gran, Uncle Derek and Uncle Shane left to drive back to Kelowna, the three of us went to explore a park nearby and walk off all the food and cake we'd eaten. At first, you were quite happy to sleep through the walk. But it wasn't long until you were exploring a whole soccer field on your own.
Enough with the camera, Mom! But your eyes are so beautiful!
Full of energy now! And practicing running!
And karate moves:

First visit to the Aquarium: part 1

For your birthday outing, we took you to the Vancouver Aquarium. Here we are taking the token photos in front of the orca carving. In both, you are waving excitedly with both hands at the camera holder:
We saw jellyfish:
You wanted to help this boy play hospital to the stuffed sea lions, but he grabbed them all and ran off. Sigh.
In a bubble, and not sure you like it:
Buttons! Your favourite. Anything that vaguely resembles a button must be pushed. These ones yielded frog sounds:
Starfish:

More jellies:

Sea otter. It was a beautiful day outside, but so crowded with people (and totally not built for people with strollers) that we spent most of our time inside and at the lower levels, which were much less crowded.

Sea turtle:

Say Aaaaah!

Big fish!

Time for a cookie in the butterfly conservatory.

First visit to the Aquarium: part 2

Checking out a looong snake with Tatus:

Now that's a big fish!

Belugas!

What is that, Tatus??

Driving a boat, like a pro! :)

Big, old, creepy-looking fish. Didn't faze you, though.

Trying to spot a...
...dolphin!

Time for a snuggle:

A visit to the Aquarium wouldn't be complete without picking up a souvenir, right?
You got a little beluga.

Big Zzzz after a big day. Slept during our walk through Stanley Park.
